Wellington & Wolfe: the pursuit of masterful Riesling
Made with the finest fruit sourced from vineyards predominantly in northern Tasmania, Wellington & Wolfe wines are crafted to showcase the beauty, depth and diversity of this unique island.
100% Riesling 100% lutruwita/Tasmania
The Name: Wellington & Wolfe comes from the owner’s love of studying history. Hugh discovered wine while studying for a degree in History and in particular, two generals – Wellington and Wolfe. These names feature prominently in places he has travelled to and worked and one morning they just rolled off the tongue: ‘The Riesling Project’ had a name.
The Winemaker: Hugh has been captivated by Tasmania since his first visit. The landscape, the history ancient and modern, the people, and most of all, the quality of fruit grown all over the island. His passion for pure, expressive Riesling resulted in the starting of this company with his partner (and kelpies) in 2017.
The Vineyards: We work with growers who are deeply committed to sustainably producing the highest quality fruit. These are predominantly in the kanamaluka/Tamar Valley and Pipers River regions.
The Label: Hugh’s sister Eleanor McCullough designed the labels, which incorporate a background of kunanyi/Mt Wellington and a reimagining of Gen Wolfe in front as the dachshund ‘Hunz’ who Hugh lived with when he first moved to Tasmania – she was a bit of a wolf herself!
Accolades: 4.5-Star Winery 2023 Halliday Wine Companion; Young Gun of Wine Top 50 2020; 2021 releases 95 and 94 points WBM

I acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which I work and respect their ongoing custodianship of this land. I pay my respect to Tasmanian Aboriginal people, and Elders past and present, and recognise their deep and spiritual connection to this land, lutruwita.
